U.S. manufacturers send letter to Mexican president to protect supply chains

Several U.S. companies members of the National Association of Manufacturers, dedicated to the production of different inputs in Mexico, sent a letter to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on April 22, 2020, in which they express their concern regarding the decrees issued by the Ministry of Health and the different levels of government, which have made it impossible for the essential production facilities of such companies, as well as those of their suppliers, to operate. This has adversely affected the ability to produce essential supplies (such as the resources required by health professionals, among others, to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic), both for Mexican citizens and for the inhabitants of the rest of North America.

In this regard, the letter urges Mexico to recognize and standardize the criteria for determining whether a manufacturer can be considered essential and critical, in terms of the guidelines issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), to the extent possible. The above, in order to guarantee the continuity of the operations of the producers of essential inputs, as well as to reduce the interruption of the supply chain of the production industry in North America.

Finally, the companies assure the commitment they have with the safety and health of their employees, and in general, of the Mexican community, for which they have implemented practices such as distancing and the use of protective equipment.

At Acedo Santamarina we continue to advise our clients in their cross-border operations as well as in the adoption of the necessary measures to address the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 virus.
